Officially it’s the start of Autumn; kids go back to school, the weather starts to cool down and Christmas is already be on peoples lips (like it or not!) But don’t worry, we aren’t ready to talk about Christmas, as there are soooo many great fancy dress events before then! One of our favourite events of September has to be Oktoberfest! Although the name doesn’t lead you to think so, the keen beer drinkers out there will know that Oktoberfest starts this month and fancy dress is a must! If we are talking about festivals, we of course need to mention the best of the festivals aka Bestival. So less talk, more inspiration - here’s what’s going on this September:
Late September - 1st Weekend of October
Oktoberfest is the World largest funfair and takes place in Munich, Germany. Can you believe it has been going for over 180 years? Millions of litres of beer are consumed each year along with a whole host of world famous German food including Wurstl (Sausage), Pretzels (a salty must with any beer) potato pancakes! Although it’s ‘home’ is in Germany, it’s celebrated across the world and so you’re sure to be able to find a local Oktoberfest event near you. Traditional attire for the event would be lederhosen for men and a Dirndl dress for women. Or for just a simple accessory a Bavarian Hat for men and blonde plaits wig will both give an instant laugh. 10-13th September 2015
Not to be overshadowed by Oktoberfest, this alternative festival has been running since 2004, and in 2010 achieved a Guinness World Record for the most people in fancy dress at one event (an impressive 55,000 fancy dress lovers in one place). So no wonder it’s our kind of festival! This diverse and alternative festival attracts a huge diversity of fancy dress - so we aren’t even going to pigeon hole you with suggestions - explore your imagination by exploring our website !
Fancy Dress Triathlon
26th September 2015
The event is a seriously fun mix of staying fit and fancy dress. This annual event happens in late September, and takes place in Gowan, Wales. Anyone who feels able can take part as it’s a bit less hard-core than a traditional triathlon (although you’ll still need to be fairly fit) and includes a 400m Swim, 16km Cycle and 5km Run. You can find out more and register @ http://www.fancydresstri.com/
